Public Relations for Animals

Why PR for Animals?

You're probably asking yourself what does "PR for Animals" mean? Why have I chosen to utilize precious space on the World Wide Web on the topic of PR for Animals?

I got the idea when I started researching animal rescue groups. I've always admired those groups of dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to pull countless adoptable pets from certain doom at the local shelter. For awhile I even considered volunteering for a rescue group. Possibly even adopting a pet through one (which I still plan to do, of course).

But as I scoured the Internet for more information rescue groups, I stumbled across groups who, to me, lacked PR and basic communications savvy. Lack of public relations know-how left many groups, in my opinion, in danger of becoming victims of PR crises as well as alienating potential adopters and community donors. And don't get me started on last fall's Ellen fiasco...

As a professional Communications Specialist, I realized I had something to offer rescue groups: public relations experience interspersed with a love of animals. So, I developed "PR for Animals" first as a blog. But I realized PR for Animals needed something more: resources and PR tips in one easy-to-access website.

On the "Tips" page, you'll find articles I've written covering everything from protecting your group from a PR crisis to how to navigate your local newspaper. The "Samples" pagem contains sample press releases to help your group develop hone that attention-grabbing release you've always wanted to write. "Resources" lists books and Web sites that I think would be of benefit to rescue groups. These are resources I use throughout my daily life that I'm willing to share. And "Blog," of course, links to the blog that started it all.

So if you're a member of a rescue group that's stumbled across these pages, please stay and read for awhile. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at prforanimals@gmail.com.
